He laughed at her statement, he was sure that all of the hot girls being taken would not bother him too much. “In all honesty, I don’t think I even want to go to the ball this year, much less find a date for it.” He knew that he was going to end up making some sort of appearance to the the ball anyway, as Marly was going to drag him to it no matter what he did.
“Really?” Elly asked, surprised, and arched an eyebrow. She hadn’t expected Scorpius to want to skip the ball and she realised that she actually didn’t know a thing about the Slytherin boy sitting in front of her. She finished her butterbeer in one long gulp. “Well, I don’t have a date either.” she said randomly, not sure what else to say. “Still going, though. I like balls, hanging out with friends, dancing, spiking the punch.” Elly laughed, remembering the last ball. She’d only just gotten away with slipping some firewhiskey into the cauldron filled with pumpkin juice.

He chuckled at her question and stared to draw patters on the wooden table, resting his head on his other hand, elbow propped up on the table. He wondered what it would be like, to go to the dance with Albus and not really worry about anything. To dance, and laugh, and make out, to be a couple in public. He shook himself mentally, it was him that had said they were going to be private until after the holidays for reasons that could not be broken.
“No I don’t have plans for the dance,” he said. “I will probably find a date last minute like I did last year or just go by myself and steal someone else’s.” He smirked knowing that I would be that easy to find someone to go with, even if he didn’t particularly want to go with them.
Elly laughed at his cockiness. It seemed most boys at their school were like that, but it didn’t bother her. She was quite cocky herself sometimes and she liked cocky boys.
“You seem to be very certain that you’ll find a date no matter what. Don’t you think all the hot girls will be taken if you leave it until the last minute?” she asked with a raised eyebrow. She couldn’t imagine Scorpius going to the dance with an ugly and geeky girl, he seemed to like himself too much for that.

“That’s quite impressive.” he said, taking a drink, surprised to find that he only had a fourth of his drink left. He drank the rest and put the glass off to the side. “I wish I had an uncle that cool. But alas, I have a relativity small family.” He looked off to the side, not really wanting to go any deeper into his family than that.
Elly got the hint. And even if she hadn’t, she wouldn’t have asked about it. She had heard things about the Malfoys and didn’t want to know more about them, so she didn’t bother him about it. “Any plans for the Halloween dance?” she asked, to change the subject.
